Dental Implants

Dental implants have revolutionised the way dentists deliver care to their patients. By imitating natural teeth, Implants are the gold standard when it comes to replacing missing teeth or anchoring painful or loose dentures.

Our teeth or lack of them can affect our appearance, confidence and quality of life. Many people suffer from ill-fitting or loose dentures, they may have lost a front tooth due to an accident or sports injury, or have lost back teeth which they would like to replace. Dental implants can be used in all of these situations to replace natural teeth which have been lost.

An artificial root comprising a titanium screw is placed into the jaw bone in place of the missing tooth root. Once healed a porcelain crown, bridge or denture is then placed over this to provide a secure, functional and cosmetic result.

Stages of Dental Implant Placement

Planning Phase - One of the most important parts of implant treatment is the planning phase. To ensure the best possible results are achieved the dentist will perform a thorough consultation assessing your teeth, gums and overall health. Measurements will be taken using dental radiography and or a CT scan.
The options for treatment will be thoroughly explained to you in writing and then discussed at a further treatment planning appointment.

Placement Phase - The placement of the implant will be undertaken by the visiting Implantologist using either local anaesthetic or if needed a conscious sedation technique. At this appointment the titanium implant is placed into the jaw bone and temporary crown / bridge or denture provided so there is not a visible gap.

Restoration Phase - Following a healing period of approximately 12 weeks osseo-integration the implant will have fused to the jaw bone and the reconstruction phase can begin. The dentist will take a special impression to allow the dental laboratories to begin work on the custom attachment or abutment to the implant in readiness for the crown / bridge / denture to be attached to the implant. Several appointments will be needed to take impressions try in ad fit the finished restoration.

Maintenance Phase - Once the implant procedure has been completed then our skilled team of dental hygienists will spend time designing a bespoke home care routine so that alongside the routine monitoring from the dentist you are given the best possible ongoing care.
