Dental Implants and Dentures

What are they?

Dental implants have revolutionised the way dentists deliver care to their patients. By imitating natural teeth, Implants are the gold standard when it comes to replacing missing teeth.

An artificial root comprising a titanium screw is placed into the bone. A porcelain crown, bridge or a denture is then placed over this to provide a secure, functional and cosmetic result.

Case Study

The following patient presented to the practice unhappy with the appearance of her teeth. These teeth were very mobile and deemed un-restorable.

Patient Concerns

  • Appearance of all of her teeth
  • Increasing looseness of her teeth

Treatment Plan

  • Removal of all existing upper teeth
  • Provision of temporary acrylic denture
  • Placement of 4 dental implants
  • Provide new full upper denture connected to the implants with retentive abutments.

Procedure

  1. Extract all existing upper teeth and immediately replace with temporary denture
  2. Assess healing and plan for implant placement
  3. Place 4 implants in ideal location to offer maximum stability and retention to the new denture
  4. Provide a new upper denture to ideal aesthetic design. Engage the implants into 4 retentive anchors within the denture base to offer stability and retention

Result

This lady can now smile with confidence as her new denture not only looks good but is superbly stable and retentive too.
